Our January 2020, IMPACT Newsletter is here! Learn about the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s accomplishments in 2019.

In summer 2018, 30 evaluation practitioners from across the Gulf Coast established a local affiliate of AEA that would provide networking, professional development, and advocacy for evaluation in our region, promoting both evaluation supply and demand. Before transitioning to a dues-paying membership model, GCEval needed to provide value to the community worthy of payment.

In 2018, as the city’s system of charter schools transitioned from state control to the oversight of the Orleans Parish School Board, the Greater New Orleans Foundation sat down with school and philanthropic leaders. The idea was to look closely at the newly unified system in an effort to determine what stood in the way of every student succeeding.

The Greater New Orleans Foundation released New Orleans School Partnership Study: What Our Students Need and How We Can Help. In partnership with NOLA Public Schools and funding support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Baptist Community Ministries, the new report identifies some of our students’ most urgent needs and a roadmap for how schools and community partners can increase resources, coordination, partnership, and investments to improve student support and performance.

On October 30th, GNOF hosted a special bus tour, tracing the legacy of Dr. Robert and Shirley Haspel.

Saturday, November 23rd, the Greater New Orleans Foundation held the second Water Fall Fest: A Climate Solutions Festival at Rosa Keller Library in the Broadmoor neighborhood in partnership with the Alliance for Affordable Energy, ThriveNOLA, Urban Conservancy, Water Collaborative, and Water Wise Gulf South

Wednesday, November 20, the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s endowed LGBTQ Fund took center stage at the home of fundholders Henry Lambert and Carey Bond. Over 100 people – donors, prospective donors, Greater New Orleans Foundation trustees, LGBTQ Advisory Committee members and friends, gathered together to hear from former trustee, Henry Lambert and current trustee, Arthur Roger.

Impact 100, an initiative of the Greater New Orleans Foundation, announced on November 19 that its $100,000 transformative grant will be awarded this year to unCommon Construction. Impact 100 is a group of one hundred local women who have committed to giving $1,100 per year for the purpose of making a single transformative grant to a local nonprofit every year. These transformative grants will be game-changers for the recipient nonprofits. Over time, these nonprofits also will be game-changers for our city and region.

“We knew we wanted to continue the tradition of Tipitina’s having a philanthropic aspect and being involved in music education outreach,” Galactic keyboardist Rich Vogel said. “Working with the GNOF seemed like the right way to get started.”

On November 11, 2019, we hosted a Pitch It! Showcase at the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Center for Philanthropy. During this event we spotlighted one of the great successes of the program, the partnership between Lighthouse Louisiana and the New Orleans RTA
